Notes of a fallen atheist/Notatki upadłego ateisty

I got chatting with my husband’s friend P. He would consider himself an atheist. I told him about a post from Chris Arnade Photography: “Over two years ago I entered Hunts Point as an atheist. I met and became friends with addicts who lived in filth and exchanged sex for drugs”. 

 “If anyone seemed the perfect candidate for atheism it was these addicts. None of them are. Rather they are some of the strongest believers I have met. I heard how Neecy found the strength to try and find a better life in her Bible. I heard how Michael’s Rosary ‘was a reminder that there is something better than all of this.”

“Soon I saw my atheism for what it is: An intellectual luxury for those who have done well.” – Wrote Arnade. “Fallen” addicts do need to believe and want to be saved. Those who “have done well" don't need to pray anymore.

Usłyszałem, jak Neecy znalazła siłę, by spróbować i odnalazła lepsze życie w Biblii. Usłyszałem, jak różaniec Michaela ‘był przypomnieniem, że istnieje coś lepszego niż to, co go otacza.”

„Bardzo szybko zrozumiałem, czym był mój ateizm: intelektualnym luksusem kogoś, komu się powiodło.” – pisze Arnade. „Upadli” narkomani potrzebują wiary i chcą być zbawieni. Ci, którym się powiodło nie muszą już się modlić.
