Mangia!

When it's hot and the balcony windows are open, sometimes you can hear the voice: “Mangia!!!” A young mom is encouraging her kid to eat. Nothing seems more important for a mother than child nutrition. I heard about a girl who was feed through syringe: when she had no appetite, her mom would put her lunch into blender and mix it.

But is it that good? Apparently parents should not turn mealtime into a struggle for who has power over the child's eating habits. It could have the opposite effects. A study published in 2002: 70% of 100 college students had experienced forced-food consumption during childhood. Most of them described their feelings of anger, fear, disgust, and lack of control.

When a child eats something he doesn’t want to, he “loses” and the parent “wins.” “So later in life, when he can freely choose the food on his own, he chooses to win. When asked if they would now eat the food they were forced to eat in childhood, 72% said they would not”. Maybe that's why many adults won't touch “healthy vegetables”?

Młoda matka zachęca dziecko do jedzenia.

Przynosi to przeciwny efekt. Badania opublikowane w 2002: 70% ze 100 studentów doświadczyło przymusowego karmienia w dzieciństwie. Większość opisywała uczucie złości, strachu, obrzydzenia i braku kontroli.
