Sympathy for Michael/Sympatia dla Michaela

I fallow Chris Arnade Photography on Facebook. "Michael 35, has been living on the streets has a hustler for 20 years. His parents blamed him for being sexually abused when he was a child and he left home when he was 15". Chris Arnade is close to Michael - the photos are documenting his afford to help him.

 

The photographer would visit him often and generally look after him. Some time ago Michael agreed to go into rehab. It seemed that he was really keen to quit his habit, but his rehab was pointless - Michael was back to heroin and prostitution. But not only would he shoot heroin into his body. There is a woman called Brenda at Huts Point.

"She has always been the voice of reason amid the chaos. She holds things together enough to cook meals and wash clothes. (…)Two weeks ago she was convinced to shoot heroin. (...) She still can’t jam a needle into herself. Michael does that." Chris Arnade wants to help the drug users documenting their life. Certainly it takes a lot of faith to stay by them.

Fotograf odwiedza go i troszczy się o niego. Jakiś czas temu Michael zgodził się na odwyk. Wyglądało na to, że chciał zerwać z nałogiem, ale odwyk nie miał sensu - Michael wrócił do heroiny i prostytucji. Nie tylko sobie wstrzykuje narkotyki. Na Huts Point mieszka kobieta zwana Brenda.

"Zawsze była głosem rozsądku w chaosie. Udawało jej się kontrolować rzeczy w stopniu pozwalającym jej gotować posiłki i prać ubrania. (...) Dwa tygodnie temu została przekonana do wstrzykiwania heroiny.(...) Nie umie wbić sobie igły. Robi to Michael." Chris Arnade pragnie pomagać narkomanom: trzeba dużo wiary, by przy nich trwać.
