To vote or not to vote/Głosować czy nie głosować

There were elections in Italy a couple of weeks ago. "Danka, do you know our Silvio? He's the one that can save the country!" - E. told me. "All the politicians would tell you about the taxes to pay, he's the only one that wouldn't!" After the elections E. told me: "Our Silvio has won!" It looks that the key to his victory seems to be the tax indeed.

Italy is suffering the consequences of the crisis. Silvio's "no - tax" government was gone and the new Prime Minister Monti started new politics, full of renouncement. Before the last elections, Silvio promised to give back that tax for second and other houses. It worked well. I wanted to tell E.: “I'm from Poland, an ex-communistic country!”

“But I don't see the difference between your country and mine. No work, no prospect for the young people. You are happy as the person who was governing for the last 20 years is back again?". I'm not voting since 2005 but in Italy I've found my ideal candidate. He's gay, socialist and ecologist. If only I could vote in Italy!

Parę tygodni temu odbyły się wybory we Włoszech. "Danka, znasz naszego Silvio? Tylko on może uratować ten kraj!" - powiedział E. "Wszyscy politycy mówią o podatkach, on jeden nie!" Po wyborach E. poinformował mnie: "Nasz Sylwio wygrał!" Zdaje się, że kluczem do tego zwycięstwa są podatki.

Włochy cierpią konsekwencje kryzysu. Rząd "nie - podatkom" Silvio odszedł, a premier Monti rozpoczął nową politykę, pełną wyrzeczeń. Przed ostatnimi wyborami Silvio obiecał oddać podatek za drugi dom i kolejne - i wygrał. Chciałam powiedzieć E.: "Pochodzę postkomunistycznej Polski!”.

„Nie widzę jednak żadnej różnicy pomiędzy twoim krajem i moim. Nie ma pracy ani perspektyw dla młodych. Cieszysz się, że osoba, która od 20 lat była w rządzie wraca do władzy?”. Nie głosuję od 2005, ale we Włoszech znalazłam idealnego kandydata. Jest gejem, socjalistą i ekologiem. Gdybym jeszcze mogła tu głosować!
