Shifting away /Oddalając się

I was chatting with T. in the playground. She’s got two daughters: M. is 11 and S. is 7. “It’s nice to have daughters; they are so close to mum!” – I said. “I don’t see M. very often: she’s always watching TV, playing with computer or her mobile…” – T. told me. Kids as young as 10 have Internet access in their rooms: even when they do not watch TV, they stare at another screen.

„Computer kids” are shifting away from direct relationships to indirect communication. This situation creates an abyss between parents and kids. Just like T. said: kids live their own life and their need of their parents shrinks. My kids are still small, they need mum and dad. But how long will it last? Also I use TV as a babysitter sometimes, but I realize it’s wrong.

It’s easy to put your children in front of the TV - but do you want television to affect their lives more than you? Been thinking about T. Never mind she’s not working and her daughter is still young; she seemed to give up the struggle for better communication. Brave housekeeper T. cares about her daily tasks and becomes out of touch with their kids' lifestyle.
